Backups
Yesterday I got an email from a service that I use for backups of my address book, Plaxo, you may have heard about it. I can tell you from first hand information that this service has saved my bacon more than once.
Plaxo is a system that works seamlessly with your everyday life. You do not even have to update it when you add a contact to your address book, it does it for you. You can sync you address with what is stored online. Separate your addresses into groups like personal, classmates, business, or whatever.
Backups from this service works on all forms of Outlook, it even offers a de-duper to clean up duplicate addresses. This is just one type of data that you need to concern yourself with backing up regularly.
Scheduling Backups
Personally I backup my computer every night, it takes me about 5 minutes to do an incremental backup. Then on Sundays, I run a full backup. This schedule keeps me continually secure and with a minimal amount of effort I can restore my entire system in about 4 hours.
Types Of Backups
There are several types of backups available now days, which means that there is no reason not to backup. You can do it yourself with CD/DVD’s, external hard drive, or online service. Regardless of which method you prefer you should learn to keep yourself backed up and secure.
Personally I have about 4 ways to backup my data and I continually look for faster ways all the time. Currently I am using Norton Ghost 15, which is very fast, and I have not found one faster yet. If I do I will probably use that one to backup my data. So keep yourself safe and do backups regularly. I even do backups on my WordPress blog everyday.
